Tasting notes
In 1995, Schoffit produced a bevy of late harvest Vendange Tardive-styled wines that are extremely powerful and intense. Although they possess considerable levels of residual sugar, much of their sweetness is concealed behind the tangy acidity these late harvest wines contain. Schoffit's 1995 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Selection de Grains Nobles (S.G.N.) possesses 150 grams per liter of residual sugar, as well as extremely high acidity. This wine should prove to be one of the most fascinating sweet dessert-styled wines produced in Alsace in 1995. Thick and rich, it is still an infant in terms of its aromatic and flavor development. Believe me, my score is conservative in view of the potential this wine possesses. However, prospective purchasers should be prepared to cellar it for a minimum of 7-8 years. Schoffit might be considered a protege of Leonard and Olivier Humbrecht as the wines produced at this exceptional domaine share a similar style - very ripe, concentrated, powerful, and intense!
