Score 91/100 · Drink 2003-2011, Robert Parker, Feb 2003

A limited production, 200-case cuvee, the 2000 Clos d'Agon, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 20% Syrah is fashioned by the well-known owner/winemaker of Pingus, Peter Sisseck. Aged 16 months in French barrels before being bottled unfiltered, it exhibits a dense opaque ruby/purple color as well as a chocolatey nose revealing hints of espresso, black currants, and earth. Full-bodied, ripe, and long, with no hard edges, it will drink well for 7-8 years. Kudos to winemaker Peter Sisseck. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Selections, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565

(an 80/20 blend of cabernet sauvignon and syrah; from the Costa Brava, not far from France's Roussillon region) Saturated ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of cassis, redcurrant, black raspberry, smoked meat, tobacco leaf and gunflint; rather Pomerol-like. Dense and superripe, but with bright acids giving the wine a penetrating, claret-like character. Complex flavors of currant, kirsch and meat. Finishes with firm tannins and excellent cut and length.
