Tasting notes
The 2022 Pinot Noir BDR (which stands for Bohan Dillon Road) is a blend of Calera and Swan Pinot Noir clones. In the glass, it’s a youthful red hue and is spicy and expressive with notes of sassafras, ripe cherries, cardamom, and forest floor. its floral side unfolds as it opens in the glass and shows notes of fresh tea leaf. Medium-bodied, it has an elegant feel with a bit of earthy richness, a plush texture, and a clean, ripe feel. It’s going to age gracefully over the next 15 years. Founded in 2007, the Boars' View estate was planted by Ulises Valdez with the help of Thomas Rivers Brown, in the same geological bowl as Marcassin. The nine acres of the property planted to vines are mostly Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Chardonnay. The wine style is a significant departure from the supple and elegant wines of Rivers Marie in that they are modeled after the aesthetic of Schrader’s style of Cabernet. These are brawny wines with a more obvious stamp of oak influence and opulence and are reflective of their more mountainous, coastal terrain.
