Laurent's top 1993s are massively concentrated, huge, intense wines that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. One of the villages where Laurent has some fabulous sources for great juice is his hometown of Nuits St.-Georges, not a particularly easy appellation in which to excel in 1993. The prodigious Nuits St.-Georges Les Vaucrains, from a vineyard planted in 1920, is one of the greatest wines in the Laurent portfolio. This hippopotamic wine exhibits an opaque black color, ponderous, sweet, black-cherry, raspberry, and curranty fruit intertwined with smoky, mineral scents. Full-bodied, magnificently-extracted, and sweeter and fuller than many of Laurent's 1993s, this wine should be approachable in 5 years and last for 25 years. Wow! A Patrick Lesec Selection (Paris fax # 011 33 1 42843822), various American importers
