Tasting notes
Mae Estate is brand new cuvée from Tyler. "This place came on the market in 2014," explains winemaker Justin Tyler Willett. "We had contemplated buying a place, so we will break ground here in 2022 on a new winery." Located in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation on marine sediment soils, the Mae Estate will become the new home for Tyler wines. The 2019 Chardonnay Mae Estate BR is a tête de cuvée of the best barrels from the vintage. The nose offers apricot and allspice with touches of meringue, jasmine and flint, and the palate is tangy and ultra fresh, with a shimmery stone-and-citrus character and a saline-driven finish. Reminiscent of Chablis with its crystallinity and precision, this BR cuvée will require more time in bottle than the regular Mae Estate Chardonnay.

The 2019 Chardonnay Mae Estate Vineyard BR, a single 500-liter barrel from the cooper Damy that Justin Willett chose to bottle on its own, is wonderfully complex and dynamic wine from the very first taste. All the elements are so well balanced. Aromatic, pliant and so expressive, the 2019 simply has it all. Lemon peel, white pepper and a touch of new oak spiciness build effortlessly with some aeration. The BR is simply magnificent.
