Score 96/100 · Drink 2025-2038, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2021

The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate The Old Vineyard, another stellar wine in this range, emerges from the original parcel of own-rooted vines planted by David Hirsch in 1980 on one of the cooler spots on the ranch. It is at once ethereal, yet powerful and deep. Crushed flowers, spice, star anise and blood orange give the aromatic breadth and real feeling of translucence that distinguishes it in this range. Rose petal, mint, cedar, tobacco and raspberry open with a bit of time in the glass. The Old Vineyard is a Pinot of transparent beauty and nuance. It's the sort of wine that really needs to be savored over a number of hours. The tannins are present, but they are noble in bearing.

The 2018 Pinot Noir The Old Vineyard has a pale ruby color and aromas of dried cranberries and citrus peel with accents of tobacco, leather and earth. The medium-bodied palate is seriously styled with a firm, juicy frame and concentrated earth-laced fruits, and it finishes long and layered.
