Tasting notes
Exotic red and black fruits, incense, leather, pepper, and cedary herb notes all emerge from Fayolle's 2021 Hermitage Les Diognières, a medium-bodied Hermitage that has plenty of ripe tannins, good overall balance, and outstanding length. It certainly plays in the fresher, elegant end of the spectrum but should still benefit from a few years of bottle age and have 10-12+ years of overall prime drinking. The Les Diognières lies on the eastern side of the appellation, lower down on the slope, similar to Les Greffieux with its deeper soils.

Checking in at 13% alcohol, the medium-bodied 2021 Hermitage Les Diognières exhales vivid raspberry compote, cloves, wet tea bag, vanilla and blackcurrant aromatics. Structured and complex, this is a delicious 2021, nicely framed by ripe tannins and bright acidity. It should drink well right out of the gate.
