Tasting notes
You could lose yourself in the seductive bouquet of the 2016 Etna Rosso N'Anticchia. Sweet exotic spices yield to crushed cherries, strawberries, candied citrus and white smoke. This is elegant and silky on the palate yet also lifted in feel, with ripe red and hints of blue fruit coasting along a wave of vibrant acidity. Its minerality comes forward toward the close, mixing with notes of grilled orange and red licorice that linger incredibly long. All of this, combined with sweet tannins that provide classic grip without ever getting in the way, creates a highly pleasurable experience. The N'Anticchia spends 18 months in barriques (50% new and 50% second pass), which is perfectly integrated here.

Nerello Mascalese from a vineyard of bush vines planted at a density of 8,000 vines/ha. Fermented in stainless steel, then undergoes MLF in barriques. Aged for 18 months in first- and second-passage barriques. Lustrous mid ruby with brickstone rim. Sweetly perfumed raspberry and oak nose which with aeration becomes more lifted, aromatic and oak-driven. Juicy raspberry and oak on the palate with crunchy tannins. Modernist. No doubt will appeal to many. (WS)
