The 1993 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Roumier is a vintage that I have not encountered before, and though this cru is less consistent than his reds, I was impressed by this showing. It sports wonderful intensity on the nose, managing a judicious and prudent reduction that does not obscure the yellow fruit. The palate is supremely well balanced and gains intensity in the glass, offering notes of praline and walnut, all wrapped up in a wine that has great length. What I admire most is that this could not be anything but Corton-Charlemagne.
