Tasting notes
Medium ruby. Musky, somewhat sauvage scents of redcurrant, leather and roasted herbs. Surprisingly supple and energetic, with redcurrant, plum, tobacco and leather flavors enlivened by healthy acidity. Fully mature but with sound acidity and good spicy intensity--not to mention noteworthy fruit sweetness--that will hold it for a while. Finishes with firm, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. A very good showing after 20 years.

This wine, produced by winemaking consultant Heidi Barrett, is impressive. There are 600 cases of the 1997, all from a 3.5-acre Cabernet Sauvignon parcel planted with the Grace clone. Sweet, rich, full, and concentrated is the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by pure black currant fruit intertwined with tobacco, vanillin, and spice. This lush, full-bodied effort displays sweet tannin, and cuts a powerful swath across the palate. The finish reveals high extraction and harmony. It will be even better in 1-3 years, and should last for two decades. (Release date 10/00) Tel. (707) 963-0808; Fax (707) 963-5271 (Grace Family Vineyard)
