Tasting notes
The one-starred 2014 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese * is clear, fine and spicy on the nose, very elegant but still discreet. Although picked in the high 90° Oechsle sphere, this is a very elegant, cool, clear, nicely piquant and mineral-scented Spätlese with grapefruit flavors. This fuder selection has more finesse and purity than the regular Spätlese, but was still restrained in January when I tasted it.

Struck flint and sea breeze suggestions on the nose set the stage for a complex palate exchange of juicy apple, mirabelle , pear and lime, high-toned green herbs and mouthwatering mineral elements. Hints of almond, smoky black tea and brown spices add to the appeal of a sappy, seriously sustained finish. The influence of botrytis – like that of residual sugar – is positive but discreet, and the complexity builds as this beauty takes on air.
