The amber/orange-colored 1990 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie opens with a fascinating pure, fresh and elegant bouquet of dried fruits but also earthy notes that take away a bit of the brilliance and add a certain imperfection, probably due to the black rotten cork. Sweet yet refined and fresh on the palate, this is a rich and concentrated yet very elegant and intense Le Mont with fine tannins and a long, sweet, saline and almost dry finish. The firm structure, saline purity and tart tannins on the finish give this Moelleux a gastronomic character. Not the very best bottle apparently. Try it with a tarte or cake with poppyseed and/or walnuts. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2023.

Very dark tawny (even darker than the Huet, Cuvée Constance 1989 tasted soon afterwards) but it tastes so amazingly fresh – wonderfully, richly sweet yet with lots of lively acidity that suggests it still has many years to go. Bravo! (JR)
