Score 78/100 · Drink 2022, Neal Martin, Aug 2022

The 1965 Pichon-Lalande has a strange nose, very monotone, touches of dried flowers, brown sugar. It is like an old decaying Burgundy that left its Zimmer frame somewhere. The palate is not undrinkable, quite sweet in a slightly ersatz way. It is mature, obviously, but not excessively so and you could not describe it as falling apart. Doddery, a bit ersatz, probably chaptalized to the hilt and degrades in the glass...yet the fact that it exists at all given the growing season deserve a round of applause. Tasted at the "Difficult Vintage" vertical at the château.
