Tasting notes
The 2020 Pinot Noir Grand H stands for Grand Cru Hengst, an exposed site with deep clay on top of marly limestone, that does not suffer from dry stress, despite its stoniness. The oldest parcel was planted in the 1960s. Made with 50% whole bunches, it spent 18 months in 17% of new oak, the rest is one-year-old. The nose is subtly floral and blood-like. This brooding and bold nature is also apparent on the concentrated palate, with drive and firm, dense but elegant tannin. This bold nature is also apparent on the concentrated palate, with driven and firm, dense but elegant tannin. Ripe, smooth cherries categorize the fruit as generous, rounded and slightly broody. Evident on the bright, fresh finish, the year's heat did nothing to diminish the wine's qualities. This needs bottle age but will be a marvel. (Bone-dry)
