Tasting notes

Tasting notes
Score 90/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr 2016

I hadn't tasted this in some years (2005) yet in April 2016 I tasted it twice in the space of two weeks. The first bottle was very much like that older example as it displayed a slightly funky, earthy and spicy nose that has now gone completely secondary in character. By contrast, the second of the two recent bottles was completely clean if entirely secondary in character while offering attractive spice, tea and floral elements. On the plus side both bottles displayed middle weight flavors that were delicious and solidly complex if exhibiting some edginess on the mildly astringent finish. Overall, while the balance isn't perfect this is really quite a good '94, at least if you happen upon a good example as the poorer ones merited no better than 86 points.
