Deep crimson, going to ruby. Very warm and winning on the nose. Unmistakably Pomerol. (Hoorah!) Gentle vinification and elevage. You could almost drink this now, though there are very well-balanced tannins and I expect this to go on and on. (JR)

Starting in 2000, Cabernet Sauvignon was eliminated from the final blend, resulting in a more interesting wine. The dark plum/ruby-colored 2000 is deep, textured, rich, and concentrated. Black fruits, earth, toast, and mocha characterize this medium-bodied, impressively-endowed yet elegant Pomerol. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016.

The 2000 La Croix de Gay has a gorgeous nose with wonderfully delineated blackberry, truffle, Earl Grey and warm gravel aromas. This is superb! The palate is full-bodied with ripe, supple tannins representing the first real modern style of La Croix de Gay: bold and ambitious. It’s very well balanced with succulent dark berry fruit tones toward the lascivious finish of black cherry, plum, thyme and truffle. This is long, persistent and merits cellaring. Tasted June 2011. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.
