Score 91/100 · Drink 2020-2025, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2019

Opaque ruby-purple in color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Scion Vineyard offers gregarious aromas of kirsch and blackcurrant with nuances of toast, allspice, leather, pencil lead and dried herbs hints. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the mouth with loads of ripe black fruits. It has a chewy frame and plenty of oak spice, finishing with just enough freshness but a touch warm. For fans of new-oak flavor. 900 cases produced.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Scion is another Alexander Valley release and it’s made in slightly less volume compared to the Big Rock Block cuvée. Aged in 50% new French oak, it has more precision and purity in its crème de cassis, lead pencil, chocolate, and crushed rock driven bouquet. Concentrated, full-bodied, with rocking minerality, it's a seriously good effort that has enough tannins to warrant 2-4 years of bottle age and I suspect will keep for 15-20 years if you're so inclined.
