Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oliver Ranch Vineyard, made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is an incredibly alluring wine with a deep ruby-purple color and pure aromas of saffron, cinnamon, warm chocolate, cast iron, sandalwood and loads of floral aromas with a core of lush cassis. The palate is lushly fruited and surprisingly fresh, its fruits cut through with notions of graphite and iron. It has an ultra grainy, pixelated tannic frame and continues to open and evolve on the very long finish. This classically styled Cabernet Sauvignon spent 22 months in 70% new French oak. Around 60% of the fruit this year was dropped after the heat spike, so this will be another smaller cuvée in the Aperture lineup.

All varietal, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oliver Ranch has a beautiful nose of bright blueberry and mulberry fruits as well as lots of floral and violet nuances. Already complex aromatically, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a vivid spice of acidity. The tannins are solid here, and this beauty is going to evolve for 15-20 years or more. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out.
