The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has quite a bold and assertive nose, blackberry and raspberry fruit, touches of melted tar and tobacco, maybe just lacking a bit of focus at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-tuned tannins, oddly coming across like a fine Pinot from the Southern Hemisphere (Hemel-en-Aard or Martinborough). Very good persistency here, though it just needs more panache. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Bright, floral nose that jumps out of the glass, with plenty of crunchy cranberry fruit and fine, youthful tannins. I might still look for a bit more from a grand cru, but good stuff. (TJ)

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru was picked on September 6 and 8 and contains 40% whole bunches. The transparent, generous bouquet is quite floral in style, with pressed rose petals present as much as the red fruit. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine tannins and good acidity. This is a very well balanced and focused Echézeaux with a structured, stony finish that just needs a little more on the aftertaste.
