RS 120 g/l, TA 5.5 g/l, pH 3.55. Chosen by Greg Lambrecht of Coravin as one of the wines for a presentation to celebrate this useful gadget's tenth anniversary. Sandeman's forte is old tawnies and this will not disappoint with its shaded amber, liquid Christmas spices and smooth-as-silk texture. Versatile enough to serve at a wide range of temperatures, before or after meals or with hard cheese, dried fruits and puddings that are not too sweet. (JR)

The NV 30 Years Old Tawny Porto is a typical Douro blend. It was bottled in August 2022 with a Vinolok stopper and 121 grams per liter of residual sugar. Complex and darker in flavors, yet still lively and fresh, this elegant 30 Year first shows its age when it coats the palate and proves how concentrated it is. It is remarkably delicious too, with the dark chocolate and caramel-laced fruit slammed into the palate. The melted chocolate of the 20 Year leans more to dark chocolate here, but it never goes too far in the direction of bitter. If it often seems mature, it never seems old. It's always enlivening, and the structure might be even better that the fine flavor profile. It acquires a tightly wound feel and some power on the juicy, mouthwatering finish. This is a fine success.

RS 120 g/l. Pale tawny amber. Rancio old cheese hints over old tobacco, polished wood and garam masala spice. Intense sweetness, but the spice, wood polish and nut gives a sense of dryness. Drying out a bit? Long, slightly salty finish though. (TJ)

RS 120 g/l. Wines between 25 and 40 years of age. Again this is lighter and much more orange than the Ramos Pinto 30 Year Old, glorious deep foxy orange colour, like caramelised apricot skins. On the palate too there is all that lovely spiced dark apricot aroma, dried mixed peel and just slightly nutty and spicy. Caramelised orange and lovely freshness. Sweet and juicy on the palate but finishes dry-tasting even with this amount of residual sugar. Long tangy aftertaste. Lots of spice and apricot fruit. Remarkably lively and fruity for a 30 Year Old.
