Tasting notes
The 2008 Confiance (97% Merlot and 3% Malbec) possesses a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a confit of black and red fruits intermixed with licorice, smoke, and forest floor. Lush, round, sexy, medium to full-bodied, and irresistible, it should drink well for 7-8 years. From the well-known French actor working in partnership with Bordeaux visionary Bernard Magrez, and the internationally celebrated oenologist Michel Rolland, all of the Depardieu wines tend to be made from selected small parcels, and the 2008s were cropped very low. For example, the Confiance was made from yields of 17 hectoliters per hectare! Unlike most celebrity wines where the person just lends their name to the project, Depardieu is heavily involved with the winemaking, and as anyone who has ever spent any time with him knows, the subject of wine may eclipse acting as his favorite occupation.
