2012 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Palmer Creek Vineyard

The 2012 Pinot Noir Palmer Creek Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1998 from Pommard and 777 clone, augmented by a little 114 clone and it sees around 50% new oak. I think it handles that oak in its stride and it is neatly integrated into the bright red cherry and cranberry fruit profile, hints of vanilla and wild heather in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a crisp seam of acidity and veins of sour red cherry, strawberry and a little mocha. The finish is a tad dry, but not austere, perhaps more reserved than it needs to be. Give this 12 months in bottle and it should age well over the following decade.
