Tasting notes
The 2020 Tempranillo Grano A Grano was produced with hand-destemmed grapes from 70+-year-old vines that fermented in a small stainless steel tank with indigenous yeasts and matured in (mostly) 500-liter French oak barrels (some 20% of the volume was still in 225-liter barrels) for 18 months. The nose reveals more black than red fruit and an intense note of licorice. It has depth and power and is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. 2,120 bottles were filled in May 2022.

The 2020 Tempranillo Grano a Grano lives up to its name—every grape is hand-selected and destemmed individually. Sourced from Marrate in Rioja Alavesa, this wine undergoes an 18-month aging process in 500-liter barrels. With a garnet-red hue, it exudes enticing aromas of cherries, plums, bay leaf and wild herbs. On the palate, it is dry and silky. Fine-grained texture and a concentrated flow create a compact and pleasant sensation. Both substantial and delicate, this wine captures a sense of mystery and enchantment, reflecting the masterful vineyard management skills of Abel Mendoza.
