The 2023 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict comes from own-rooted vines planted in 1971, and grapes were harvested on October 13. Matured for 10 months in used French oak, it has slowly opening scents of saline, spring honey, citrus fruits and floral perfume. The light-bodied palate is more open at this stage, with concentrated, saline-laced flavors. It has a silky texture, vibrant acidity and a long, perfumed finish. It will benefit from time in the cellar.

The 2023 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is another very classy, polished wine from Arnot-Roberts.. At the same time, at 12% alcohol, this is a wine that is more about house style, as there is basically very little expression of place. Jasmine, orchard fruit, mint and white pepper linger. The Arnot-Roberts S&B emerges from the oldest vines on this legendary site. For me, Chardonnays from Sanford & Benedict need to have more creaminess.
