Tasting notes
Glass-staining ruby color. Remarkably perfumed, sexy bouquet of cassis, candied cherry and plum, incense and fresh flowers. Wonderfully energetic syrah, offering deep, sweet blackcurrant, kirsch and floral pastille flavors. This is strikingly pure and finishes with outstanding lift and persistence. I looked for tannins but couldn't find them.

The 2006 Syrah Cardiac Hill comes from a steep, rocky, north-facing vineyard in Bennett Valley. Primordial, tasting more like a two-month old barrel sample than a finished wine, the Cardiac Hills displays notes of crushed rocks, black fruits, tar, Chinese black tea, lavender, and some subtle wood. The wine is massive and broodingly backward.
