Deep ruby. Cherry and fruit cake with a hint of Moroccan leather and notes of oak. Certainly a more modernist approach than most. Succulent, rich cherry and hints of cinnamon bark, fruit cake and plenty of powdery tannins. Acidity plays up a little on the finish. Very fresh finish that closes up fast. Remarkable contrast between the open rich and developed nose and the fresh tangy fruit. (WS)

The 2016 Brunello has baked aromas of fig, tar and turned earth. The palate is savory with tea leaf, cherry pit, and pine resin. It is full-bodied and rich with ripe tannin and warming spice. Col di Lamo is an organic estate. Drink 2021-2028.
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Diletta is the first single-vineyard expression from Col di Lamo, coming from a two-hectare parcel, which Gianna Neri believes yields her best fruit. It’s a dark, earthy and slightly herbal expression which blends wild strawberries with notes of sage, mint and hints of animal musk. The textures are silky in feel, giving way to a mix of wild and blackberry fruits, saturating minerals and savory spice. Grippy tannins slowly clench the palate, yet there’s plenty of acidity and notes of sour citrus to maintain a fresh impression. Rosy inner florals, spiced orange, licorice - the finish just goes on and on. The 2016 Diletta will need at least five years to settle down, but it is worth the wait.
