Tasting notes
The 2017 Monteti is redolent of dark cherry, chocolate, spice, leather, tobacco and grilled herbs. This brooding, potent Maremma red packs a serious punch, despite its mid-weight personality. There is a bit of burliness in the tannins, but otherwise, this is nicely done.

60% Petit Verdot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc. 70% new oak but mainly tonneaux. Deep crimson, youthful-looking thanks to the dark colours of these varieties. Rich black fruit with a touch of violets. Very expressive of Petit Verdot. Firm, chewy tannins starting to become like thick velvet. Tannins perhaps thickened by the oak. Lots of fruit depth and surprising freshness. A big, rich wine with a long finish. (JH)
