Tasting notes
Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 13% Merlot, the 2017 Red Mountain Reserve expresses a firm, ripe and juicy nose with a dusty, mineral essence before floral elements float out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pure, fresh and succulent with a firm mineral tension and tannic edge. The Reserve sways with subtle flavors of black cherry skin, leather, bitter dark chocolate and graphite on the long, lingering finish. Just under 2,300 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 21 months in a mix of French, American, Hungarian and European barrels, 58% new. Give it a try.

Bright ruby-red. Subdued but pure aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and dark chocolate, lifted by a note of violet. Nicely concentrated, pliant, sweetly oaky flavors of dark berries, black cherry, tobacco leaf and spices. Sound acidity shapes and lifts the middle palate and carries the dark fruit flavors through a supple, persistent finish. Tannins are present but harmonious. A very good showing.
