Score 92/100 · Drink 2018-2025, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Oct 2017
(14.9% alcohol; 68% estate fruit, the rest from Ciel du Cheval and Klipsun vineyards; vinified without stems): Bright, full ruby. Musky aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and spice are complicated by notes of rocks, smoke and game; very expressive in spite of a touch of reduction. Plush, sweet, rich and deep, offering terrific breadth as well as noteworthy inner-mouth tension to its flavors of blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate, licorice and violet. The very long, palate-staining finish features sweet, dusty tannins and vibrant fruit. A delicious sappy, fine-grained midweight with lovely lift, particularly for a wine with a pH of 3.9.
