Tasting notes
The 2020 Red Queen of the Eden Valley Shiraz is impenetrable in the glass; it's inky purple, with a nose of charry oak, black cherry, dark chocolate, grit, earth and aniseed. In the mouth, the wine is smoky and spiced, gritty, dense and chocolaty. There is a lot of everything here, including lashings of resinous cedar, intense fruit and pliable tannins. This is a big wine, with lots to consider and take in. 14.7% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

This 2020 Shiraz Red Queen of the Eden Valley, made with fruit from vines planted in 1912, delivers a concentrated, focused, cooler climate style. Sweet French oak backs up blackberry, old leather and crushed spice aromas. Dry and firm, it delivers powerful meaty, wood-smoke savory flavors underpinned by a firm bed of rustic tannins. It's a muscular style that will be best with a couple more years under its belt.
