Tasting notes
A fairly priced as well as outstanding effort is the 2005 Zinfandel Nervo, a blend of 92% Zinfandel and the rest Petite Sirah and Carignan. A dark ruby/purple color and deep, concentrated, blackberry and black cherry fruit with hints of toasty oak, dried herbs, new saddle leather, and earth emerge from this broad, savory, rich Zinfandel. With tangy acidity as well as light to moderate tannin, this is one of the broadest wines of this group. As it sat in the glass, intriguing notes of incense and white chocolate also became apparent. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. This venerable producer, with as fine a track record as any winery in the world, continues to turn out high quality Zinfandels. Tel. (408) 867-3233
