Score 91/100 · Drink 2017-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2017

A delicious, appellation-level wine, the 2015 Grenache (Santa Barbara County) is bright, floral and perfumed, with quite a bit of aromatic lift from the 50% whole clusters. This is an especially weightless, gracious wine for the vintage. The understated, silky finish only adds to its considerable appeal.

Coming from the Stolpman, Larner and Bien Nacido Vineyards and brought up in used French oak, the 2015 Grenache Santa Barbara County is a charming, forward, red fruit, spice and floral-scented Grenache that has medium-bodied richness, plenty of sweet fruit and a clean finish. While founded by Craig Jaffurs in 1994, Jaffurs Winery was sold to winemaker Daniel Green in 2016. Green is a Washington D.C. who started a small label in Lompoc in 2012, Conarium, while he was working for Wes Hagen at Clos Pepe. Craig agreed to stay on through 2017, and so far, there’s been no dramatic changes in the style, or quality of the wines.
