2009 Domaine Jacques Prieur Volnay Santenots 1er Cru

(beginning with this vintage, all of this wine comes from the estate's Clos des Santenots holding): Good medium red. Very closed on the nose, with hints of mocha and chocolatey torrefaction emerging with air. Suave and creamy in texture but with a distinctly medicinal quality to its redcurrant and chocolate flavors. A slightly herbal edge limits the wine's sweetness and drying tannins currently cut off the fruit on the back end.
