Tasting notes
In a completely different style, the 2017 Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountain Vineyard is prettier and more elegant, with a beautiful perfume of strawberries, blueberries, violets, and smoky forest floor. It’s balanced and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and, again, a beautiful sense of elegance. Drink it over the coming decade.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountain Old Vines is soft, pliant and easy to like. Elegant and finessed, with silky fruit and good depth, the Old Vines is impeccably balanced from start to finish. Sweet red berry, spice, chalk, blood orange and floral notes are all nicely delineated in this vibrant, slightly nervous, Pinot from Failla.
Impressive, fragrant, spice and flower aromas with wild herbs and some gently meaty and spicy complexity. The palate has a thread of strawberry and red-cherry flavors with a smoothly savory and grainy twist of assertive tannin at the finish. Drink or hold.
