Inky ruby color. Deeply pitched black and blue fruits, licorice, smoked meat and candied flowers on the pungent nose. Offers densely packed cassis, bitter cherry, fruitcake and cracked pepper flavors that show fine definition and a smoky mineral quality that adds back-end lift. The licorice and floral notes recur on a very long, focused finish that's framed by chewy, steadily building tannins.

The 2019 Côte Rôtie Les Journaries is similar aromatically, with grilled plum, blue fruits, pepper, violets, and some classic La Landonne smoky meatiness as well as a beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied style on the palate. I love the overall purity, it has incredible tannins, and a great finish. Hide bottles for 4-6 years and enjoy over the following two decades.
Primarily from La Landonne, the 2019 Cote Rotie Les Journaries (labeled Maestria outside the United States) features pungent notes of black olives, roasted meat and grilled plum. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a long, softly chewy finish, this has a real shot at greatness.
Assertively perfumed aromas of primary black/blue fruits, incense, exotic spices and candied flowers, plus a smoky mineral topnote that adds urgency. Deeply concentrated blackberry, bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors are supported by a spine of smoky minerality and pick up a suave violet candy quality with air. Blends power and finesse with a steady hand. and finishes youthfully tannic and long, with resonating floral and spice notes and outstanding persistence. In France this wine is labeled as "Maestria" and "Les Journaries" is the original name for La Landonne, the lieu-dit that contributes 70% of the fruit that makes up this wine. 70% whole clusters.
