I had the chance to review the 2011 Albariño Cepas Vellas, which for whatever reason was never reviewed previously. This has been a sleeper of a vintage, one that provided very high yields and was dismissed originally but has grown tremendously in bottle. The nose is fully developed, with notes of oregano, aromatic herbs, petrol and subtle minerality. The palate is really compact, the wine works as a unity, as a block, perfectly integrated, with the austere mouthfeel of the granite and a tasty, almost salty finish. Just for the record, I tasted it from a magnum. This could be at the sweet spot of drinking, but I don't see why it should not keep developing for another 5+ years.

Bright yellow. Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and pear skin. Stains the palate with concentrated lemon, pear and honeysuckle flavors braced by chalky mineral and ginger notes. Refuses to let go on the finish, where the mineral and floral notes echo emphatically. A superb combination of power and vivacity here. I was able to taste the components of the estate's "classic" Rias Baixas just before bottling and it should be an outstanding, fruit- and floral-driven wine, with the region's typical minerality on full display.
