Bright medium yellow. More minerally and complex than the 2016 version, offering aromas of white peach, fresh pineapple, orange oil, minerals and spicy oak. More imploded today than the Blanchots, showing less dimension but in need of time. An element of lemony acidity contributes to the wine's rather austere impression. But firm saline minerality and acidity give this very young, clenched grand cru the spine to age gracefully. Distinctly broader-shouldered than the 2016 version. This fruit was picked early, but the estate brought in their Blanchots and Montée de Tonnerre first, after the hail.

The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos comes from 29-year-old vines and is raised in 65% stainless steel and 35% oak barrels for ten months. It has an open and expressive, slate and Alpine streams-scented bouquet that is precise and conveys a sense of joie de vivre. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine thread of acidity building with conviction on the mouth toward a long and persistent, slightly creamy finish. There are touches of ginger on the aftertaste that complete a very accomplished and delicious les Clos.
Tank sample. 35% aged 10 months in 2- to 5-year-old barrels. A lightly mealy note over the cedary citrus, with strong stony intensity on the nose. The oak more obvious on the palate but there is very good freshness and noticeable power and depth, and length. (JH)
(aging in 35% oak, none new): Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of white peach, ginger and chlorophyll. On the palate, the ripe peach and apricot flavors are accented by spices but show a slight bitter edge. Less harmonious in the early going than the Blanchots.
About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
