The 2011 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles has a perfumed bouquet with touches of wilted white flowers mixed with citrus fruit and cold limestone aromas. The definition here is very fine. The palate is very well defined with crisp acidity, quite spicy in the mouth with a cohesive and yet rather conservative and linear finish. Drink now and over the next 8-10 years.

The 2011 Chablis Grenouilles boasts tremendous power, depth and richness, but also comes across as a bit four squared. Graphite, game and grilled herbs add complexity. This is a Chablis that uses pure intensity rather than finesse to make its case.

Good bright, pale color. Yellow fruits and spicy oak on the nose; this smells round! Fat, ripe and spicy in the mouth; at once round and powerful but with a bit less intensity than the Valmur, which is from much younger vines. Shows a strong saline oyster juice quality, with yellow fruits in the background today. Still, this strikes me as more Cote de Beaune- than Chablis-like. Finishes broad and a bit warm, with very good length.

The 2011 Chablis Grenouilles emerges from the glass with white flowers, stone fruits and beautifully integrated oak. As is often the case, the Grenouilles does not have the pedigree, polish or finesse of the best wines in the lineup, but it is one of the best wines from this overrated vineyard. In other words, this is about as good as it gets for Grenouilles.
