Tasting notes
The 2023 Zinfandel Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard brings the funk. Notes of game, iron, animal musk and slightly underripe blackberry fruit open first, but then the 2023 quickly closes in on itself and balls up like a clenched fist. The 2023 is in no mood to play today. Cellaring is an absolute must.

The 2023 Zinfandel Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard comes from vines planted more than a century ago, and the wine matured for 10 months in 55% new French oak. It has slowly unfurling scents of wild berries, peach, graham cracker, mossy bark, earth and floral perfume. The full-bodied palate is bursting with concentrated, spicy flavors. It’s structured by firm, grainy tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, complex finish. 240 cases were made.
A deeper ruby/magenta color, there’s more Petite Sirah in the field blend for the 2023 Zinfandel Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard, which has darker, more intense notes of cigar box, blackberries, cherry preserve, dark spices, lavender, and mossy forest earth. The palate is full-bodied, with ripe tannins, even acidity, and a broader feel on the finish. It has a deeper tannin structure and a bit more richness of earth and grip on the finish, with a slightly more a rustic feel to its structure, but it’s well-balanced and can handle richer marbled steak and braised meat.
