Darkly colored, this is loaded with sweet, smoky, black and blue fruits, licorice, spice and hints of flowers in the aromatics. Plush, lush, fat and juicy, while not as packed and stacked as Sine Qua Non, if you\'re an SQN fan, you should be digging this.

Looking at the 2009 Cumulus Vineyard #3, it is an interesting blend of 80% Syrah, 14% Grenache and 6% Roussanne that spent 30 months in 30% new French oak. Offering up lively black fruits, pepper and roasted meat-like aromas on the nose, it’s a total knockout on the palate and has layers of richness that stay perfectly focused. Seamless, layered and long, with sweet tannin, it will continue to thrill for 10-12 years. Drink now-2025. These two superb efforts by Manfred and Elaine Krankl focus on their new estate vineyards that are located in Oak View around the winery. Next of Kyn is a completely separate operation from Sine Qua Non and with the 2010 vintage, the blend is moving away from the Syrah dominated compositions of the past and is incorporating more grape varieties as new plantings come on line. I expect this tweaking to continue going forward as well. While a separate operation, these are certainly on par with all of Manfred’s other Sine Qua Non efforts and are thrilling wines! www.sinequanon.com
