Score 90/100 · Drink 2000-2027, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate, Apr 2024

The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon is a red-fruited, bright, fragrant example of this warm, typically concentrated vintage. The nose is evolved but poised, showing aromas of dried tobacco, grilled plums and charcoal, gaining richer notes of mocha and loamy soil with air. The palate is soft and inviting, as it is consistent with Kathryn Kennedy Cabernets. While certainly an enjoyable, refreshing take on the vintage, this is nearing the end of its prime drinking window and should be consumed by its 30th birthday.

Deep ruby-red. Inky aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice, mint and bourbon, with a subtle floral nuance. Juicy, intensely flavored and penetrating, with slightly rustic notes of tar and varnish. In a drier, leaner style for '96 (perhaps because it not softened by merlot) but offers good intensity and length.
