From more clay and sandy soils on the plain, the 2016 Château Tour de Capet is mostly Merlot yet includes 15% Cabernet Franc, brought up in 30% in new barrels. This medium ruby/plum 2016 gives up plenty of plum and berry fruits, some earth, herbal notes, medium body, and a rounded, supple, charming character.

Plenty of red and black plums with some chocolate character, make this generous and supple St.-Emilion easy to enjoy right now. Nice smooth finish, even if it’s a bit simple. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Tour de Capet is just as gorgeous as it was from barrel. Readers will find an extremely aromatic, perfumed Saint-Émilion that offers both tremendous pleasure as well as immediacy. Grilled herbs, menthol, licorice, cedar and tobacco develop as this layered, exquisite Saint-Émilion develops in the glass. There is so much to like here.

A potential sleeper for the vintage, 2016 Tour de Capet is rich, sensual and inviting. Although not especially complex, the 2016 is endowed with terrific balance. Spice, leather, cedar and tobacco overtones wrap around a core of bright, red-toned fruit in a gracious, supple Saint-Émilion. The 2016 is a very pretty and complete wine endowed with a terrific sense of harmony. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. New oak is around 33 percent.
