Tasting notes
The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello is a very beautiful and expressive wine that will appeal to readers who appreciate the more traditional side of Chianti Classico. Sweet tobacco, sage, mint, dried cherry and crushed leaves give the 2013 its lifted aromatics while bright Sangiovese acidity adds the vibrancy. Aging in cask produces a style of Chianti Classico that emphasizes aromatics and savoriness, while fruit is more in the background. There is a purity and frankness to the Campitello that I find hugely appealing.

Radda in Chianti. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Energetic Sangiovese nose with hints of iron. Vivid acidity and fresh raspberry fruit on the palate, with just a hint of oak. Polished tannins. Really fine and complex. (WS)
