Tasted blind. Pale blueish crimson. Jewel-bright sweetness on the nose. Real palate presence with more assertive fruit than most. Proper palate-satisfying burgundy. Still lots of fine, dry tannin on the end. (JR)

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillats from Jean Tardy has a very composed bouquet with plenty of dark cherry and raspberry fruit and pastille-like purity. This displays fine intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine, supple tannin. It comes across as so elegant and smooth in texture with just a faint touch of cooked meat on the very satisfying finish. This is an excellent Nuits Saint Georges, more modern than classic, but absolutely delicious.
Sweeter smelling than the Vosne-Romanée Vigneux. Darker fruited, too, with dry, lightish tannins. Certainly not a powerhouse but finely balanced and persistent. (JH)
