The 2009 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain L'Exceptionis made from a parcel of 85 year old vines on the border of Volnay and Meursault. It is a silky, perfumed wine with gorgeous harmony and elegance at this level.

The 2009 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain is a lovely entry-level wine with well-defined aromas and flavors that nicely match its accessible personality. The average age of the vines is 40 years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. This is a stunning set of wines from Michel Lafarge. The estate farms biodynamically. The wines were left on their gross lees through the malos, which ended in April-May. Lafarge did one racking, in August, 2010, when he moved the wine off their gross lees, leaving just the fine lees. I tasted the 2009s from barrel. Lafarge planned to bottle later in Spring 2011 with no fining or filtration, as is his usual custom. 50% Gamay, 50% Pinot Noir. Light red. Racy with lots of tart fruit. Just a bit too tart for me and not enough flesh. (JR)
