Score 88/100 · Drink 2023-2027, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Aug 2022

The 2021 Les Baronnes is a young wine, which has benefitted from the lack of fruit in the 2021 vintage; the maker's single vineyard cuvées from similar soil (clay-limestone) has been added to ensure quantities for this key blend. It's a piquant, nettle, pineapple and bright citrus-flavored wine. the 2021 already shows a tenderness through the palate while the acidity provides a bright line that pierces the core and sings through on the finish. A cool, Sauvignon expression. It tings like a bell when you reach your floor in a lift.

About the producer

Verre Glass of Wine
Henri Bourgeois

Although the family had long grown vines in Sancerre, it was in the 1950s that Henri Bourgeois started championing the wines of Chavignol. The property grew from two to 65 hectares, spread between Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and is one of the standard-bearers for the region.
