Tasting Notes
Notes of oak, smoke and pencil lead preface the 2024 Rol Valentin, a moderately weighted, structured and firm wine framed by brittle tannins and a spicy finish. Less dense and concentrated than in previous vintages, it reflects a more restrained expression of the estate. The blend is composed of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec, matured in 40% new oak.

Grilled oak on the opening, tar and sandalwood, touches of incense, high austerity on the tannic frame, this has ambitious consruction that suggests they are looking for a wine that can age. Give it a good three or four years. Harvest 28 September to 4 October. 40% new oak.
The 2024 Rol Valentin is a very beautiful wine. Naturally, the 2024 is on the lighter side relative to the norm here, but it excels with fine balance and a total sense of harmony. Crushed flowers, mocha, new leather, incense, licorice and espresso build effortlessly. This mid-weight Saint-Émilion is pure charm. Tasted two times.
The 2024 Rol Valentin has a concentrated nose with black cherry and blueberry fruit, although it lacks complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, linear in style, with a simple, slightly monotone finish. So-so.
