The 2024 Château Ripeau is a clear success and brings more texture and mid-palate depth than most. Assorted darker berries, juicy cassis, spicy wood, tobacco, and floral notes all shine here, and it's medium-bodied, has plenty of mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins. It's easily going to be outstanding. Tasted twice.

Medium intensity ruby red colour. Structured, firm tannic hold, this is well constructed with an eye on ageing, more than many in the vintage, good limestone character, enjoyable slate scrape, austere but successful. Gregoire family owners. 32.5hl/h yield. Harvest September 25 to October 2. Potential upscore in bottle.

The 2024 Ripeau is attractive in its aromatics but much less inviting on the palate, where the wine feels strict and lacking in depth. Cherry, blood orange, mint and sweet spice struggle to emerge.

The 2024 Ripeau has an open, Burgundy-like bouquet with red cherry and crushed strawberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with light, juicy tannins and predominantly red fruit, with a gentle grip on the finish. It does not try to push things and that serves it well. Not long-term, but it will slip down the throat.
