Score 89-91/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025

A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Pichon Comtesse Reserve is deep purple-hued and reveals a charming, forward style in its darker cherry, currants, smoky tobacco, and gravelly earth aromatics. It's medium-bodied and has a supple yet nicely textured, balanced mouthfeel. It's a solid second wine that will offer plenty of pleasure right out of the gate. The 2024 hit 12.7% alcohol, 3.7 pH, and 65 IPT.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Pops from the glass with cheery scents of fresh blackberries, mulberries, and black currants, leading to hints of lavender oil, pencil lead, and damp soil. The light-bodied palate is refreshing and pure with lightly chewy tannins and a savory finish.

Unusually austere on the opening for this highly consistent wine, but things builds slowly but surely, expanding through the mid palate to show chalk, crayon, cassis and cocoa bean, grilled herbs. 48% of overall production in the Pichon Comtesse Reserve, 3.7 pH. IPT 65, 50% new oak for ageing, 15% press wine.
