Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2025

The 2024 Marquis d’Alesme has a wonderfully inviting nose, with a delicate bouquet of floral aromatics, notes of rose petals and lilac springing from the glass. The palate is so pure and precise this year with notes of crunchy red fruit that come to the fore. There’s impeccable length on the finish, driven by carefully managed acidity that carries the abundance of fruit. This feels so approachable despite its youth.

Based on 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals ripe, upfront notes of Bing cherries, currants, and smoky tobacco. Medium-bodied, round, and nicely textured, it has plenty of mid-palate depth and sweet tannins. It's a beautiful, incredibly successful Margaux that will offer pleasure right out of the gate.

Really lovely quality, so much texture and depth, violet flowers, sweet plum character, perhaps a little sour acidity also, we are fully in push and pull territory, well constructed, powerful but the tannins are hard on the finish. 50% new oak. Harvest 24 September to 8 October. 55% new oak. 3.65 pH. 35 hl/ha yield. The blend is the plantation.

The 2024 Marquis d'Alesme Becker has a clean, fresh and well-defined bouquet with pure black cherry and blueberry fruit. Hints of crushed violet develop in the glass. This has the composure of its "sibling," the Labégorce. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and crisp with pliant tannins and a very harmonious, poised finish. This is promising, and hopefully the quality will be replicated in bottle.
